It's Been A While

How do they do it? Maintaining a blog is not easy when you have a full time job. Students okay - I can understand. But when work calls, blogging is forgotten. I am just trying to justify the absolute vacuum over the last few months. Almost forgot the id and passowrd.

Anyway, I was saddened to learn about the passing of Justice Lai Kew Chai. Nice person and I say this not just because it is the thing to say about someone who has just died.

I remember early in my legal career, I had a hearing before him. Has some mistakes in the application. Justice Lai asked under whom I worked. After I told him, he said that if I ever needed to see him about anything, just come bye his courtroom and speak to Eugene, his personal assistant. If he was free he would see any young lawyer who needed his advice. This was great to hear for a young lawyer.

For the record, I only took up the offer once about an ethical dilemma I faced. His advice was what I sort of expected. Common sense and practical.
